We Proudly Support Our Military

Ray Farmer’s History of Service / US Marine Corps

In the fall of 1983, I joined the Marine Corps delayed enlistment program in Escanaba, MI. I was proudly sworn-in in Milwaukee, WI just prior to leaving for boot camp in San Diego, California in November of 1983.  Once I graduated Boot Camp my orders for training brought me to Millington, TN where I attended my “A” school to become a Hydraulic Mechanic.  Upon graduation from Hydraulic School, I was assigned to Heavy Marine Helicopter Squadron (HMH 361).

While serving with HMH 361 we trained in areas such as Yuma, Arizona executing desert training exercises.  We also spent time in Fallon, Nevada for cold weather training. Training to maintain our aircraft in the United States meant we would be flight ready for any mission, domestic or international.

Next, the squadron was deployed overseas to Okinawa, Japan to the Marine Corps Air Station, Futenma.  This deployment was to last approximately 6 months.  During this time we operated in countries such as the Philippines, South Korea and Japan.  Our mission was to transport troops and cargo to areas in need of support. I completed 3 six-month tours with our squadron.

While serving in the Marine Corps from 1983 to 1989, I was meritoriously promoted to Corporal E-4 and Sargent E-5.  I attended NCO bootcamp in El Toro, California to help develop leadership skills. Shortly afterwards I became a Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) then a Quality Assurance Representative (QAR).  These two certifications enabled me to sign off on Hydraulic Technicians’ work and sign off on aircraft for flight readiness.  During my last 2 years of service, I was night shift supervisor of our hydraulic shop; statewide and abroad.

I have been blessed with many manufacturing opportunities over my 30 year career. I enjoy working with and growing employees and business systems. I strongly believe in servant style leadership to help facilitate growth and opportunities within organizations. My greatest strengths are helping others accomplish their goals. I believe in the journey and enjoy being a part of a growing organization.
